The possibility that other campers might see my legs at church terrified me. Instead of knee-high socks, I wore my brown, wool tights, which I had packed just in case we needed to wear uniforms on a chilly night.
I would rather my friends ask about my tights than my hairy legs; at least I could lie and pretend that I forgotten my uniform socks.

Sitting quietly in the front seat of the station wagon, I was fascinated by the way the summer light coming through the windshield caught the blond hair on my legs. I was hoping the hair would sparkle even more after three weeks of July sunshine.
With the corner of the camp itinerary brochure, I drew red lines on my pale thigh and tried to direct attention away from the nausea I always expected to feel during long car rides.
